NEWS RELEASE 11th April 2003
New venture from the Science Photo Library - Exclusive prints available on the internet
For the first time in its 25 year history, the Science Photo Library is offering members of the public the opportunity to buy prints from a range of its most stunning images. It has launched an online gallery www.sciencephotogallery.co.uk from which high quality art and limited edition prints can be ordered.
The launch coincides with the 50th anniversary of the discovery of the DNA double helix - one of the most important breakthroughs in science. To celebrate the event, Science Photo Gallery has produced exclusive limited edition prints of the classic portrait of Watson and Crick with their DNA model. The photograph, taken in May 1953 has become an icon of twentieth-century science and a symbol of scientific discovery. The prints are hand-signed and numbered by the photographer, Antony Barrington Brown, and are printed on Fuji colour crystal archive paper. This limited edition is available at two sizes - 20x16" @ £275 and 30x20" @ £375. A poster is also available, with supporting information about DNA and the double helix discovery.

According to Maria Storey, marketing & communications director, SPL has always had demands from private individuals for specific images, particularly those that appear in national papers. "The Science Photo Gallery will feature pictures with wide appeal such as the earth from space and those have been popularly requested in the past, such as the ladybird hovering over a flower".
